The Bonanza Creek Long Term Ecological Research Area (LTER) is a research area located approximately 20 km southwest of Fairbanks along the Parks Highway. The Experimental Forest is within the Tanana Valley State Forest, and focuses on ecosystem controls in forest succession. The area represents a transect of typical vegetation and landforms in interior Alaska, and includes a section of the Tanana River floodplain at an elevation of approximately 120 m and adjacent uplands. These uplands form the southern limit of the Tanana-Yukon uplands, rising to a ridge crest of 470 m. The vegetation, a mosaic of forest and non-forest types, corresponds to four broad topographic zones: upland hills and ridges, lowland toeslopes and valley bottoms, old Tanana River terraces, and the active floodplain. Maximum participants: 20

This trip will feature either an overflight of the Denali fault rupture in a small aircraft, or a helicopter-based excursion to important sites along the fault rupture. This is really the only way to see the spectacular parts of the rupture. This will be a 2-3 day trip and would cost several hundred dollars. Please let us know if you are SERIOUSLY interested. This trip will require a significant deposit or pre-payment prior to the workshop.

Additional field trips may be added at a future date to accomodate participant interests.
