General Info

Registration Desk - Westmark Fairbanks Gold Room
The AAAS registration staff will provide assistance with program information,
audio and visual aids for the oral and poster sessions,
and other administrative needs.

  Badges
Each participant should obtain a badge at the registration desk prior to attending any of the sessions.

Messages
There will be a message board near the registration desk. Messages can be left at the Westmark Fairbanks Hotel and Convention Center?s main desk, phone 907-456-7722.

Food Service
Continental Breakfast: Continental breakfast will be available on September 22-24 from 7:30 -8:30am in the Westmark Gold Room.
 
Coffee and Beverage Service: Coffee and beverage service will be available in the meeting rooms (Gold Room West, Gold Room Middle and Gold Room East) during the morning and afternoon breaks.

Lunches:
Lunches will be provided on September 22-23 at an additional cost.

Inquire at Registration Desk
The hotel features a 24-hour business center with personal computers, printers, a fax machine, and individual guest room voice-mail so you won?t miss any important contacts.

Poster Sessions - Rampart Room
Posters will be on display throughout the day on September 23-24 in the Rampart Room, located adjacent to the Gold Room. Authors will be present to discuss their material during the assigned poster sessions time of 1:00-2:00pm each day. Posters will change daily and will be displayed concordant with the sessions for the day. Please note that many of the posters will be located inside rooms where oral presentations are given, so you will need to view them either during breaks or during the assigned poster time. Please remember to bring the necessary supplies to hang and present your poster. Posters may be put up on the boards on the morning of your session between 7:30-8:30am. Posters must be removed by 8:00pm each day.

Audio/Visual Equipment
A computer projector for PowerPoint presentations, a 35-mm slide projector, an overhead projector, and a pc laptop will be provided upon request. Please email Lovro Vlacic at lovro@giseis.alaska.edu if you have any other presentation needs.

  Accommodations and Ground Transportation
A block of rooms have been reserved for AAAS participants at the Westmark Fairbanks Hotel and Conference Center in Fairbanks, Alaska. Please contact the hotel directly to make your reservation.
The Westmark Fairbanks Hotel will provide transportation from the Fairbanks International Airport to the conference being held at the hotel. You may contact the hotel upon arrival, and they will provide shuttle service to and from the airport free of charge.

Adjacent to the lobby, the famous Bear?n Seal Grill
& Bar features American and Alaskan cuisine, casual table side service and the finest selection of spirits, beers and ales in the city. Enjoy a meal, or simply relax with friends or associates. For those who would like to venture out and explore the city, there are cozy restaurants within walking distance. You haven?t fully experienced Alaska unless you?ve been to Fairbanks.

Climate and Dress
September is normally a time of cool weather in Fairbanks with brilliant fall colors. Be sure to bring warm clothing, especially a good jacket and comfortable footwear. Snow can occur at this time of year, so layering is the dress for success look in Fairbanks. You can add or remove what you need, when you need it. Dress is casual for all activities.
